Kooikerhondjes are sensitive and intelligent and have a strong character.They are affectionate and sturdy nature that makes it a delightful family dog.This breed is happy and self-assured, yet cautious with strangers and other dogs. Its temperament should be neither aggressive nor anti-social.
While it may take a little time, the Kooikerhondje, once accustomed to somebody, will always be a good and loyal friend. Socialization is the key to overcoming to the breed's cautiousness and to preventing potential behavioral problems,they make first-rate companions because they like to be among people. For that reason, they need consistent, firm training with a stern but calm voice.
If they are raised with children and both child and dog have been taught to respect each other, there is no reason to pass over the Kooikerhondje as a family pet. Children need to be taught how to be pack leaders. The Kooiker is an all-around dog, capable of participating in many types of activities Walks, hikes, playing at the beach and dog sports may all be of interest to him. As long as he is with you, he’ll be happy. When you come home from work, he’ll greet you with a waving white tail and warm your lap or feet in the evening.
Kooikerhondjes are generally not noisy dogs. A barking kooikerhondje is usually just trying to get attention or is trying to ward off an intruder. He loves doing things with his people, but the Kooiker adapts his energy level to his family’s lifestyle. He can live comfortably in a apartment as long as he gets daily exercise.Afterwords,it will became districtive.
Activities in which Kooikers tend to participate include agility, dock diving, barn hunt and lure coursing. Many are also good at rally, flyball, nose work and tracking.Kooikerhondjes make good watchdogs.
