Shar pei dog breeds are intelligent playful, active, dominant, and brave, It bonds with its family, but is not unfriendly toward strangers,they are bright and learn quickly,but early training and socialization are important It makes a delightful companion and a good watchdog. The Shar-Pei needs a confident handler.Shar-Pei are clean dogs that require little more grooming than an occasional bath.

Originally these breeds are used for multipurpose Chinese farm dog, many of the breed's characteristics relate to that work. Their moderate sound structure allowed them to be perimeter guard dogs,working all day.They have retained vermin catching, herding and tracking skills, as their role on the farms was diverse.

Some Shar-Pei are less dominant then others and show lines tend to be less dog-aggressive, mixing well with other dogs.The Chinese Shar-Pei will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. It is moderately active in indoors and will do okay without a yard.

The Chinese Shar-Pei has a considerable need for exercise, which includes a daily walk.To be sure, the Shar-Pei is an interesting-looking dog, and his looks alone are enough to prompt many would-be owners to choose this breed. But there's more to the Shar-Pei than his unique appearance.

This breed is calm enough that he can live in an apartment.He's also an independent-thinking, sometimes aloof dog. His heritage as a guardian and fighting dog make him an excellent watchdog and guard dog,so much so that he must be taught not to overreact to people and animals he doesn't know.
